Programs

Ivy League Educational & Charities Foundation (ILECF) recognizes that education is the most powerful tool to success. The foundation is committed to the idea that academic excellence comes in many forms. There are several ways the Foundation carries out its mission: Academic Scholarships, Partnerships, and Community Awards/Grants.

In 2007, ILECF awarded more than $9,000 in scholarships, community assistance awards, and educational grants.

Academic Scholarships
The foundation has named its annual scholarships after Xi Alpha Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Founders: Maye F. Hutson, Velma Dotson, Evelyn Ware, Jewell Phillips, Betsy Johnson, and Jurleen Drummer. The scholarships are based on areas of collegiate interest ranging from music to engineering. Graduating high school students are encouraged to apply for scholarships in the field of study they will be pursuing.

The scholarships are in the amount of $1,000 to graduating high school seniors who excel academically. This is a one-year one-time only scholarship; the applicant must be a graduating high school senior.

Scholarship Applications and supporting documents must be postmarked by April 12, 2010. Recipients will be notified by mail in May 2010.

Community Awards/Grants
The community awards are awarded to assist individuals and organizations for a specific civic, educational or human service program or project.

Some of the projects that receive funding involve partnerships with longstanding service organizations such as American Cancer Institute, Houston Livestock & Rodeo, and the Planet Hope Foundation benefiting orphans and underprivileged children of the DePelchin Center. Foundation grants have underwritten math & science programs and camps for middle and high school students.

The foundation continues to answer the out cry for help from our most vulnerable citizens. The foundation has supported families financially with donations of school supplies and uniforms. The community awards/grants are designed and implemented by individuals who know their community’s needs best. The grants help leverage funds in a manner that does the most good.
